Build Instruments:

Students will exercise their creative muscles to build an instrument!  The majority of materials used are natural and emulate the cultural tradition of building and use of the instrument.  This is a wonderful way for students to use their hands and experience the delight of playing an instrument they created!

Bucket Drumming:

Bucket drumming is the art of drumming on plastic buckets with wooden sticks.  Students will learn to play a variety of different sounds using all parts of the bucket and the sticks.  Playing a steady beat is practiced in a group setting by listening, feeling and staying with the group.  Students have a blast playing different styles including latin, pop and classic rock.

Treasure Hunts & Games:

There will be hidden treasure with clues buried/hidden throughout the campus.  The students are so excited to find a prize for everyone inside the treasure chest!

Dance & Movement:

Students love the dances and games led by Olivia Westenskow!  Olivia has the gift of creating and teaching the students fun dances that combine world dance with popular moves and hip-hop.  Students have a great time learning dances that go with the music they are learning on instruments!

Daily Concerts:

Each morning students enjoy a concert given by a local artist.  The daily concerts provide an opportunity to have an up-close experience with professional musicians.  After performances, students can ask questions and sometimes try out instruments.

Play Instruments:

Students will play Orff instruments, drums and percussion.  Each student will have the opportunity to play every instrument.  Students will be introduced to repertoire that will reinforce the 5 elements of music: melody, harmony, rhythm, timbre, and form. The older students will also be introduced to reading notes and rhythms.

Final Concert:

The students will perform all they have learned in a final concert the last day of camp.  It is a chance for them to show and perform the instrument they built; and perform songs they have prepared on the percussion and Orff instruments.
