Class Description:

The curriculum builds throughout the school year, inspiring a lifelong appreciation of music and giving children the foundation they will need to enjoy success in private instrument instruction. Keeping a steady beat, playing instruments, dance, creative movement, singing, harmonic accompaniment and improvisation are the building blocks developed to create this solid musical foundation. Students are invited and challenged to play quarter notes and eighth notes accurately, read rhythms, and sing on pitch. We distinguish between fast and slow (tempo), loud and soft (dynamics), and high and low as well. Kindergarteners are excited to create their own orchestra using orff barred instruments (harmony & improvisation), percussion (timbre), hand drums (rhythm) and singing (melody). Though a student may play one part at the concert, they learn and play every part during class. Through this rich interactive environment, students discover their own creativity and the joy of making music with friends!
