Music Class Descriptions:

Our music classes are based on things children like to do: sing, chant rhymes, clap, dance and keep a beat on anything near at hand. These instincts are directed into learning music by hearing and making music first, then reading and writing it later. This is the same way we all learned our language. Our Curriculum grows as the students continually develop their musical skills throughout the school year. Students can join at anytime during the school year. Tuition will be pro-rated for students beginning in the middle of a month.

Parents will love interacting with their baby in a playful game-like atmosphere using music to enhance baby’s development. We’ll have fun with chair games, floor games, massage and tickle rhymes. Activities will use simple melodies and several props such as scarves, puppets, shakers and drums to reinforce your baby’s natural love for music. These activities are fun, bonding and they help baby begin to make important pathways in the mind. This is a great way to enrich your baby’s development and have a fun activity to do together.

Kids Make Music!
Pre-K & K

Ages 3 to 6

I want to form this class!

Pre-schoolers absorb through active experience by keeping a steady beat, coordinating large motor movement with sound, and they begin to make connections between the voice, ear and mind. Our class approach weaves together speech and poetry, movement and dance, singing, drama, improvisation and playing musical instruments. Students are also introduced to musical terms, reading rhythms, harmony and form. Your pre-schooler will be inspired by the special Orff barred instruments which include wooden xylophones and metal glockenspiels that offer quality sound immediately. Playing them together as a group, children become sensitive listeners and considerate participants. In every activity, social skills within a group dynamic are enriched and developed.

Kids Make Music!
Kindergarten/First Grade

Ages 5 to 6

I want to form this class!

The curriculum for this class inspires a lifelong appreciation of music and gives children the foundation they will need to enjoy success in private instrument instruction. Keeping a steady beat, playing instruments, dance, creative movement, singing, harmonic accompaniment and improvisation are the building blocks developed to create this solid musical foundation. Students are invited and challenged to play quarter notes and eighth notes accurately, read rhythms, and sing on pitch. We distinguish between fast and slow (tempo), loud and soft (dynamics), and high and low as well. Kindergarteners and first graders are excited to create their own orchestra using orff barred instruments (harmony & improvisation), percussion (timbre), hand drums (rhythm) and singing (melody). Though playing one part at the concert, students have learned and played every part during class. Through this rich interactive environment, students discover their own creativity and the joy of making music with friends!
